Stress with Region Auditions

So I noticed that my kids are becoming increasingly frustrated and tired of the region music. I feel like nowadays kids feel so pressured to audition for region and they give up or quit on band in general because they don't see it as fun. Mine are going through that. They are slowly progressing with region music but they hate practicing it. They don't know how to overcome obstacles despite how much we discuss life skills and how to succeed in life. Anyone have suggestions on what to do to bring them back to "band life?" This for a MS band by the way in region 15/28 area. I understand the benefits of kids auditioning for region. It does make them better musicians regardless. My kids rather be practicing pep music than sit and practice region/scale stuff.
Even me as a director feel pressured to produce region numbers. I feel like all the fun about being in band is sucked out by pressuring kids in return to do their best and make region. Maybe its me? I don't know. Suggestions or ideas for me or my program would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!
