Re: Clarinet Tuning Issues - Concert C
To the wonderful world of clarinet. Even the best instruments have major tuning problems. If your kids are on the Selmer Prelude Composite, then this problem is probably slightly amplified. Try pulling out from the middle of the clarinet between the upper and middle joint. If this doesn’t work, the students can try voicing the note lower with their tongues in addition to their jaw. Have fun! There may not be an easy solution
My clarinets are having a terrible time trying to bring down their concert C to pitch. They're playing fourth line up D over the break.
On average they are 20 cents sharp on that one note. The note above and below seem to be hitting in pitch. They've even tried to drop their jaw as low as possible to get a decent sound and relax as much as possible and still are 5 cents sharp.
Reed used: D'Addario 3.0 and 3.5 reeds.
Mouthpiece: Fobes Debut
Instrument: Selmer Prelude Composite
I tune open g, lower c, and high g.
