Re: Teaching in an urban district.
YES - Inner City ISDs absolutely can be career killers. I had sweepstakes in a large urban district and I know my resume was tossed to the side just because it had that school district's name on it.
Been thinking about this lately. Is it a “career killer” to have an urban district (Dallas, Fort Worth etc.) on your resume? Even if you’re successful with sweeps at UIL and various other contests and have good numbers, culture and such? I’m currently at a Title I suburb district and enjoy teaching low SES kids and have been successful as an assistant and have been playing with the idea of possible moving to a head job at a urban district or low SES district in the future. Would that be a career killer for other opportunities in the long run? Thanks for any input and opinions!
