Re: Best characteristics of assistants/head directors that you have worked with?
My best experience with a HD is one who was supportive, who could give correction in a considerate manner, and who included the staff on all decisions. This person guided me through my early years, and helped me develop as a band director. He made me feel like a part of the program, not hired help. He also defended his staff with admin, and other teachers.
Just curious, what are some of the things that made up the best co-workers (assistant or HD) you've ever worked with?
I've seen and read about things no one likes, but what about the contrary?
For me personally, the HD I work with is very consistent with his personality and aware of sharing work load/responsibility evenly. He also makes it a point to ask about how things are going outside of work consistently.
I've never been an HD so I can't speak for assistants.
