Re: How do I need to React?
Yeah feels like a big middle finger to all that the other students and ourselves have relentlessly worked on.
I had a similar thing pop up today in class. I was informed their dad was taking them out to camp on Friday after school and they were not going to the contest this weekend. I asked what about going out to camp Saturday after contest since we will be finished by noon. It wasn't even an option in their eyes. Frustrating because the kid seems to really like band. We've had it on the calendar for three months and this week they decide to go camping.
I have had a FLOW of parents contact me saying they are going out of town next Friday/Saturday and their little Susies will not be there for football game OR contest.
Thing is.....THIS WEEK IS OPEN WEEK PLUS EARLY RELEASE FRIDAY AND NO SCHOOL MONDAY.
Yet...They will not be there the week before UIL.
How do I address this? I know it is not the students fault and dont want to place anger in the wrong place. How do I tell parents (without sounding like a nazi) about the expectations. For most of these kids its not them wanting to go, but their parents forcing them to go and miss. I want to tell the parents how it is and how important every person is yet I dont want to burn parent bridges that keeps their children out of the program in the future when it is NOT THE KIDS FAULT.
I HATE punishing kids for parents.
What do I say??
**Sorry rant over. Apologies for yelling**
