Re: Surviving a poorly designed marching show
Where are you located? I may be willing to help you re-design based on how far you are from me.
I'm a relatively inexperienced HD at a school with great kids, culture, parents, support, staff, admin, etc.
The marching band has had success in the recent past.
This year I took a risk with a different drill writer and arranger, and it totally backfired. The product is ineffective/borderline uncleanable and I think maybe too late to make major changes.
We've gotten much lower placements at contests we've won in the past and I am getting some confusion, resentment, and disappointment from my kids (and of course, parents).
My question is... how do I survive this season with minimal blowback? Of course we will keep "cleaning" what we have as much as possible. I have emphasized the importance of process over results, kept things upbeat and positive, etc, but I'm not sure what else to do.
I dont know if admitting that I botched the design process will really help the situation.
Thanks for reading. Have a great week!
