: I just get the feeling that DC doesn't know
: what to do with this character.
:
: I would have liked to see them leave Captain
: Marvel in the magic area fighting foes no
: other hero could fight at least on a
: mega-level and yet leave a little humor in
: the process.

I agree with both previous posts. The Jeff Smith story arc was so-so, but 1st ish of Billy Batson is NOT GOOD.
The best runs DC ever did were the Don Newton run of the late 70's and Jerry Ordway's book in the 1990's.
Trials of Shazam is crap, so is the new book.
DC should just run a monthly, modestly-priced reprint book of the original Fawcett stuff, start about 1943 when Otto Binder came in, and there you go (pre-Otto Binder, Cap was pretty primitive and pretty much pointless; Binder really gave the series a direction).
When Ordway is ready to do Cap again, or they get a Don Newton Jr. kind of artist, then they should do another new series.
