The Edson is generally recognised by collectors to be the finest modern Waterman fountain pen. Introduced in 1992 and named to honour the founder of Waterman, it was discontinued in December 2015, since when prices have increased. The first Edson released in 1992 was the blue and gold pen, followed by green and ruby pens in the 1990s.This pen is the ruby pen, which I believe is one of the scarcer colours, along with the green and black pens. Each colour of pen was colour-matched by the converter, a nice touch. The black and platinum pens were the final model before production ceased. The green and ruby and black pens are scarcer than the blue.
This ruby pen has the serial number 045178 and “France” on the clip and “Waterman Paris” on the cap band. It is complete with the ruby red converter, the original packets of blue and black waterman ink cartridges, papers including the International Lifetime Guarantee card, the presentation case and outer card box.
The 18K gold nib has the imprint “W” and “750” for 18K gold. On the rear of the nib the feed is marked OGF which is oblique left fine. I am a right-handed writer and for me the nib is very smooth fine-line writer. If I slightly change the angle of the nib it brings out a bit more of the oblique but my writing is scrappy with my right hand and I am co,pletely unable to useh my leftso I cannot show the full oblique effect. The pen is in very good condition with just minor marks and has been lightly used by me. The blue presentation case has crazing on the top cover material which strangely seems to be the norm for these cases. Otherwise both the case and outer box are very good.
