A beautiful custom pen by the late and much missed Joe Cali who created one-of-a-kind fountain pens from vintage acrylics with sterling silver trims and always button fillers. This pen has the barrel and cap made from a rich red marbled acrylic with amber cap and barrel jewels. A more slender pen than many of Joe’s designs, and long (closed 15.7 cm and a splendid 20.5cm when the cap is posted) but light and well balanced and with a big vintage Lipic nib, a lovely writer, maybe a bit stub. The button filler takes and expels ink vigorously. I have added one of Joe’s pen sleeves.
This was the first Joe Cali pen I owned and was not bought directly from Jo but it inspired me to make quite a large collection of his pens, sometimes with interesting vintage nibs I provided.
The pen is in excellent condition; the only slight flaw is – I think – the silver clip has not got Joe’s usual curl at the end, maybe got bent, I don’t know as it came to me like this. No doubt it could be curled if desired.
