“The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword”: Fountain Pen Designed By Laurinda Spear for Acme Studio c2008

The quotation from Edward Bulwer-Lytton the 19th century writer and politician, who led a somewhat scandalous private life and wrote in part to finance it.

Bulwer-Lytton's most famous quotation is "The pen is mightier than the sword" from his play Richelieu:
“Beneath the rule of men entirely great, the pen is mightier than the sword.”
Other quotes from his writing include “the almighty dollar” and “the great unwashed”.

The pen was designed by Laurinda Spear, co-founder and principal of the Miami based architects Architectonica.

The pen is made in brass with the design hand-applied and covered in lacquer. On a white background is the black copy quoting Edward Bulwer-Lytton, "The pen is mightier than the sword". The artist's signature is engraved on the red cap band. The pen has an Acme German made steel medium nib with converter; these nibs are smooth writers with well-controlled feed. The pen has never been used and is presented in the ACME metal case with a black sleeve document.

LAURINDA SPEAR
LAURINDA SPEAR graduated from Brown University in 1972, and received her Master of Architecture from Columbia University in 1975. Since 1975, she has received numerous awards for architectural design both domestic and international. She has exhibited her work with universities and galleries from Rome to San Diego. From 1977-79, she was faculty member for the University of Miami in charge of Engineering and Environmental design. As a co-founder and principal of Architectonica, her International Architectural firm is responsible for the Miami skyline we know today made popular by the TV series Miami Vice.
