A post-war Warterman Taperite Stateleigh fountain pen with blueish grey barrel and gold plated cap with a soft fine hooded nib and a lever filler.
The Taperite was Waterman’s answer to the success of the Parker 51, hence the hooded nib. It did not have the innovative engineering design that went into the Parker 51 nib and filler and air-craft initiated shape. Aart from the hooded nib the Taperite design was more 1960s than 1940s, with a distinctly deco cap design and lever-filler but it did have the virtue of the classic Waterman nib, soft smooth writing, emphasized in their adverts.
The Stateleigh model in particular is well made and the pen is in excellent condition, fills and expels ink vigorously and the fine nib is smooth and soft to use. So it is an attractive classic pen in looks and writing, and cheaper than its 1930s predecessors.
