A Skyline Executive set with dark blue barrels and green and blue striped caps with gold filled trim. The Executive is the oversize model of the Skyline, 14.5cm closed compared with 13.3cm for the standard pen and is relatively rare. Most of the extra length is in the barrel not the cap and the barrel/section is also a bit fatter on the Executive and the nibs are larger.
This pen has a large medium, somewhat stub Eversharp 14k nib a smooth writer and capable of being quite expressive; I like it a lot. Skylines were always notable for their excellent nibs and large ink capacity, using the full barrel space with tapered sacs.
The pencil has an art deco style to and most of the eraser is still there and the mechanism works perfectly.
The set is in excellent condition, with no brassing of the gold-filled trim except for some marks on the pencil cone. The celluloid colours are still rich. It comes in the original burgundy red velvet covered case which is also in excellent condition.
The Skyline pens were launched in Spring 1941 and were very high quality and with a radical streamline design by introduced in 1941with a radical streamlined design by the industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss is most famous for the iconic 20th Century Limited steam locomotives of the New York Central Railroad and the Skyline is immediately recognizable as a “twin”.
