The Eversharp Skyline was introduced in 1941with a radical streamlined design by the industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss is most famous for the iconic 20th Century Limited steam locomotives of the New York Central Railroad but apart from the Skyline pen Dreyfuss also introduced his streamline designed to domestic appliances such as the electric iron. The Skyline was a great success for Eversharp and its design is still appreciated today.
This pen is the Skyline Executive, with Dubonnet red barrel, red and gold striped cap and gold filled trim. The Executive is the oversize model of the Skyline, 14.5cm closed compared with 13.3cm for the standard pen. Most of the extra length is in the barrel not the cap and the barrel/section is also a bit fatter on the Executive and the nibs are larger. And the Executive is less common than the standard Skyline.
This pen has a fine to medium Eversharp 14k nib with some flex (I have not pushed it) and is a smooth writer; Skylines were always notable for their excellent nibs and large ink capacity using the full barrel space with tapered sacs . The cap is in very good condition, the gold-filled trim has just a touch of brassing on the lever. Under magnification the barrel has marks of use especially some scratches where the cap screws on but otherwise is good looking.
