A trio of Rotring 600, fountain pen, ballpoint pen and pencil, made in Germany in the matt chrome finish and with the option of adding a Rotring red eight-pen case.
The pens and pencil have hexagonal barrels with round knurled grip sections, made of brass finished in matt chrome with the with the Rotring trademark red circle on the barrels. The fountain pen and pencil are mint, unused and with their boxes. I not sure if the ballpoint was used but it is also in excellent condition. I cannot find the box.
The fountain pen has an EF nib, a smooth firm writer. It comes with an unused Rotring converter and also takes the industry-standard ink cartridges such as Diamine. The fountain pen has been discontinued and these pens are now relatively expensive to buy new or used.
The ballpoint pen takes widely available Rotring cartridges and has a new cartridge fitted. It has an ink colour window with the options for blue (fitted) red and black.
Rotring pencils are marked with the lead size; this one is marked on the cap for 0.75mm leads and it has a lead softness indicator window, set to HB. It has an unused eraser. The Rotring and compatible leads are also widely available.
The red Rotring pen case takes eight pens and pencils and is in excellent condition. Dont see these cases very often.
Background:
Rotring is most famous for its technical drawing instruments, starting with a Stylograph pen allowing rapid drawing with well-controlled ink feed. In the Second World War the factories in Hamburg were bombed but the company was saved ironically by an order from the RAF for 1000 Stylograph pens a month, a tribute to their reputation. In the 1950s the company developed a successor to the Stylograph, a ballpoint piston filler for technical drawing using ink. This pen was identified by a red ring on the end of the barrel and following its success the company was renamed Rotring in 1968. Following the takeover of Graphos from Pelikan in 1970 Rotring diversified into a wider range of pens for both technical drawing and art and calligraphy. The 600 series was launch in 1989 as a higher end offering made in brass with matt chrome and black finishes, which continue to this day.
