A large square brass inkwell etched in a floral pattern bound in Moroccan leather, with hand-blown glass insert, all in excellent condition, c1900.
The inkwell case is approximately 6.5cm square and the leather is in excellent condition with just minor scuffs and the “Ink” in gilt script on the lid is intact.
The hand-blown glass insert has no chips or cracks and remarkably, the leather seal on the inkwell lid – tested with water – seals perfectly with no leakage. The case front push-button opener and the sprung inkwell lid release both work perfectly.
I believe that this style of traveller inkwell was made in Vienna but can find no maker mark.
