The English Newhaven Parker factory introduced a range of Duofold models after 1945 and before their launch of the Duofold Centennial in 1988. The most attractive of these Duofolds was the Maxima, introduced in 1958 and continuing through the 1960s and ‘70s. The Maxima is a large pen, about 14cm closed and about 16cm with the cap posted, matched on the model 50 with a large nib.
This pen is the classic black Maxima with gold filled clip and chevron cap band. The cap has a matching black jewel. The barrel imprint is clearly legible: “PARKER MAXIMA DUOFOLD 6 MADE IN ENGLAND”
The big #50 nib is imprinted: “14K PARKER ENGLAND 50 8”, the “8” classifying the #50 nib as a size 8. It is a fine nib, smooth with just a little flex.
The pen uses the aerometric filler from the Parker 51 special marked “THE PARKER PEN CO. LTD LONDON ENGLAND” with the instructions “PRESS RIBBED BAR AT LEAST 5 TIMES”.
The pen is in excellent condition with no brassing of the gold filled trim and just some typical marks of use on the black barrel visible with magnification. The Parker cream and black card box which has a tear in the lid on one side and a couple of jottings on the lid.
