Waterman’s 52 black hard rubber pen with a 9ct gold barleycorn overlay and gold filled clip.
The 9ct gold overlay has the London hallmarks for 1929 and maker mark “FDW”. The indicia has the interesting inscription: “Libra Lodge B.A.H 31.1.30”. The Libra masonic Lodge was established in 1929 in Central London and consecrated on 31st January 1930. So the pen marks an important Masonic event. (the lodge was “erased in December 2008 because of “decreased membership.
The pen is now as it was when it was presented in 1930 and is in beautiful condition. The chased hard rubber cap is mint, unused until it replaced a wrong (chatelaine) cap which the pen had when I bought it on eBay. The cap and clip are correct for this pen.
The barrel has a very feint imprint for Waterman’s U.S.A. so the base pen was imported from the USA and the overlay added by Waterman’s in the UK.
The number 2 14k nib is a smooth and flexible fine point, a very nice expressive writer. The pen has just been serviced with a new sac.
Closed the pen is 13.6cm and with the cap posted, 17cm.
A beautiful looking pen with an interesting history and a lovely expressive writer.
