The Taperite was Waterman’s postwar pen to compete with the success of the Parker 51. I am not sure what model of Taperite this burgundy pen is; it is slightly longer than the US-made Stateleigh, made in France so it may be a French version of the Stateleigh? The pen has the fashionable hooded nib and slip-cap but retains the deco design of the pre-war Waterman’s clip and the reliable lever filler. The cap is polished chrome with a fine line pattern at the bottom
The barrel imprint is worn but legible, “WATERMAN’s MADE IN FRANCE”.
The 14k nib is a fine smooth flexible point which can sometimes “railroad” if pressed.
The pen is approximately 13.7cm capped and 15.6cm when the cap is posted.
The condition is good, some marks of use on the barrel and a few scattered patches of brassing on the chrome cap visible under magnification.
The Taperite has been underrated, overshadowed by the technology and design of the Parker 51. But this pen has a more flexible nib than the the 51 and US made Taperites I have used, maybe because it was made for the French market?
