Albert Barker was a prominent silversmith and retailer whose shop was at number 5, New Bond Street. Albert Barker made and sold luxury items some of which are in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum and are well known in antique auctions. The firm was established in 1889 and ceased trading at the beginning of the second world war.
William S Hicks established his business in New York in 1818 as “ WILLIAM S. HICKS, Manufacturer of Gold Pens and Pencil Cases” and by a contemporary account “His pens are world renowned for exquisite temper, durable points, beauty of stock, and durability for outlasting all other makes. They have come into use in the leading mercantile and financial circles of New York, London, and all other large cities of the globe.”
