A particularly beautiful Waterman’s 552, BHR with full London 9ct gold overlay in alternating panels of the line and dot and barleycorn patterns. The overlay has crisp London hallmarks for 1930 on the clip, cap and barrel with “FDW” maker’s marks.
Closed the pen is 14.2cm closed and 17.6 cm with the cap posted. The barrel end is milled so the the cap posted perfectly securely, a nice touch. More commonly with these gold overlays the overlay does not extend to the end of the barrel.
The number 2 nib is marked 14k USA so the base hard rubber pen was made in the US and imported to London for finishing. The nib is a medium point with lovely, easy flex and good flow. The pen has been serviced with a new sac fitted and fills well and is an attractively expressive writer.
The overlay is fine condition, crisp with fine hallmarks, blank indicia panel and just one minor bump on the end of the cap which is very difficult to see and I could not photograph.
A particularly attractive looking pen which also is a lovely writer.
