Parker T-1 fountain pen in brushed titanium with red cap and barrel jewels.
The cap imprint is “PARKER. MADE IN U.S.A. The pen has a fine/medium nib, a titanium nib which is integral with the titanium body of the pen. with a “Plathenium” tip, an alloy of platinum and ruthenium. The underside of the nib has a line width adjustment dial which would very the nib from a fine to a medium point. The pen also has the converter.
The T-1 was a short-lived design, introduced in April 1970 and withdrawn in 1971, The design is beautiful and the soft look and feel of the brushed titanium is appealing. But titanium is a difficult metal to work and the costs of the pen demanded a high retail and price and still exceeded the price charged.
The instructions on how to turn the nib adjustment dial were surprising: to use the edge of the cap as, in effect, a screw-driver to turn the dial! Use of the nib adjustment caused problems and as the nib was integral to the pen the whole pen had to be replaced under warranty.
(In 1978 Parker introduced a pen based on the T-1 design but in steel, lower cost, simpler and more rugged, The Model 50 Falcon.)
All of this makes the T-1 highly collectable.
This T-1 is an early pen in the brushed titanium finish and is in excellent condition. I have never written with it and I have never used the cap to adjust the nib dial.
