A particularly attractive Williamson Torino hooded nib pen in blue pearl laminate from the late 1940s, designed to compete with the success of the Parker 51. The barrel of blue pearl laminate has matching section and gold filled cap in a fine lines pattern with feathered arrow clip. The barrel imprint is “WILLIAMSON”. The button filler is covered by a matching blue laminate cap and the 14k nib is a fine point with a little flex.
The pen is 13.5cm closed and 14.5cm when the cap is posted.
The pen is in excellent condition.
Williamson Torino began life as the importer of pens from the American Williamson company; when the American company went into liquidation in the late 1920’s the Italian company began manufacturing their own pens under the brand Williams Torino (the company was based in Settimo just outside Turin, which was the home of many Italian pen makers).
In the 1930s and ‘40s they made high quality pens, particularly noted for beautiful laminated celluloids borrowing from the designs of the Parker Vacumatic. The filling system was the well-established – by Parker – button filler and their clip was a feathered arrow, a more elaborate version of the Parker arrow.
After the Second World War Williamson followed other Italian pen makers in producing a hooded nib pen to compete with the Parker 51, but they did so using their established laminated celluloids and button filler. The result is a beautiful mix of the 51 and the Vacumatic.
