A Gorham sterling silver dip pen in fine condition with a bold twist pattern, almost modernist and unusual for this time, made about 1890. The pen is in excellent condition with clear Gorham maker’s marks and “Sterling” imprint on the ferrule.
Gorham was founded in 1831 by Jabez Gorham, a master silversmith, in Providence, Rhode Island and became a leading maker of high quality silverware in the US. Around the time this pen was made Gorham had opened a store on Fifth Avenue in New York and also a showroom in London, followed by manufacturing workshop in Birmingham. The company – now part of a group, Lifetime Brands – is still in business.
