I have just one pen in this sale post, but itís a beauty. Itís a Krone Limited Edition Mount Everest fountain pen. Itís one of the least Ďover the topí pens that Krone has produced, which seems odd given the theme!
The actual full name of this pen is the Krone Sir Edmund Hillary Mount Everest Pen, and it honors Sir Edmundís ascent to the summit. It is #96 of 1088 pens produced in 1998. There are several features that recall the summit, most notably a small cut stone inset into the back of the cap. This piece of rock is part of a sample collected from Everestís summit. The cap top jewel is also a small sculpture of the peak.
The pen is crafted from cracked ice Ďmetacrilateí, which looks to be the same material used by Stipula on many of their cracked ice pens. The cap and turning knob are black resin, and all the trim and detail pieces are sterling silver, in polished, satiny and antiqued finishes. Thereís a fair bit going on here but I think it all works together pretty nicely!
The pen appears to have been dipped, but looks absolutely brand new. I canít find any marks anywhere to indicate that it has been used or even handled. Itís a piston filler, which I have tested with water to ensure that it is working properly. The nib is an 18k two toned Krone #6 nib in a smooth fine point. The pen comes in a ridiculously oversized gift box, which includes all paperwork, a small box for the pen itself, and a pen holder sculpted in the form of a miniature replica of Mount Everest.
Iím asking $2250 shipped for this pen. That includes insured USPS Priority Mail shipping within the US. Overseas shipping is available at cost, and it will likely add $100 or more to the price of the pen due to the size of the box.
