A pair of Parker 21 pens, a first version (Mark I) with the date code 4Q’49 in black and a second Mark II version c1951 (the Mark II did not have date codes) in green. Both pens have the Lustraloy caps and both are in excellent condition with clear fillers and fine nibs.
The 21 was launched in 1948 as a lower cost model for the student customer. The nib had the hooded 51 style but was a standard, cheaper steel (“Octanium”) nib with a more exposed feed. The clip was not the classic Parker arrow but a simpler streamlined design with a "V-shaped" profile. The filler is the simpler version of the 51's aerometric, used in the Parker 51 Special in 1950.
Redesigned in 1951, the Mark II nib fitted more closely to the feed, similar to the 51, to improve the ink flow. And the clip changed to a "V-trough" design.
The Parker 21 was a great success and evolved with new “Super” models, including the short-lived 41, lasting until 1965 when the 45 was launched.
