The pen features an 18k #6 medium nib, which writes smoothly with a little bounce. The nib has a nice engraved scroll design. Outside of the unusual form of this pen, the filling system is also pretty unique. The filling system is entirely external. To fill the pen, you first must use the included screwdriver to unscrew a small cap on the underside of the pen. Then use the separate pump to suck up some ink from a bottle. Screw the pump into the barrel, hold the pen with the nib facing up, then SLOWLY depress the pump filler, filling the pen. Do it too suddenly and you'll shoot the ink right out the nib! But if you do it gently, it works really well. I've never seen anything like it. So you can fill the pen without ever touching the nib to ink.
This pen has been used but it is in excellent condition. There are no dings or gouges, only some very fine micrsoscratches in the polished finish of the cap and end cap, visible with a loupe. The craftsmanship on this pen is really something. there are lots of cool little features, engravings, and markings. This one is #34/688. Comes with both filling tools, a specially designed leather pen case, and a generic JPL box. The original box is missing.
This is a really stunning pen, and not one you'll come across too often. I'm asking $1750 shipped for the set.
