A beautiful Swan pen and pencil set with 14k solid gold overlay in the “lined and engraved” pattern, made in New York in the 1920s. The set comes in the original smart leather covered case.
The pen has the imprint around the end of the barrel:
“SWAN PEN SAFETY SCREW CAP PAT. JULY 5.05 MABIE TODD & Co N.Y.”
The cap, clip and barrel are all marked “14K”.
The pen is a lever filler with a #3 medium nib with nib with nice flex, an expressive writer.
The pencil imprint is on the cone: “MABIE MAGAZINE PENCIL” and “PAT. JUNE 7.10”
The “magazine” amd the patent date refer to the Mabie Todd pencil lead magazine used in many Fyne Point pencils. The pencil is also marked 14k on both the clip and the cone.
Closed the pen is 13.2cm and with the cap posted, 17cm. The matching pencil is 12.7cm.
Both the pen and pencil have matching initials beautifully engraved in the indicia’s.
Condition: excellent: the gold overlay is crisp and without dings and the imprints and gold mark are equally crisp. The pen has been restored and fills well and writes a smoothly with good iridium with lovely flex. The pencil is a does have some scratches on the cone and what appear to be tool marks at the end of the barrel by the cone.
The set comes with the original leather covered case which is also in excellent condition.
