(Take all meet scores, drop high & low, average the remaining meet scores …
maximum of 5 home meets, used lowest 5 home scores, except no requirement to have the min 5 away scores until Final NQS on 3/23)
OSU, with the second highest score of the season, a 196.925, now has an NQS of 196.106, and remains Officially** 25th.
OSU had a season high on Floor (49.425) and second highest event scores of season on Vault (49.150) and Bars (49.275)!
(**RTN rankings are Official only when they post Monday’s 3/16 Week-11 Rankings, which they did Sunday night 3/15!
I was confused this weekend with some of the NQSs shown for "Daily Results" (before 3/16 Rankings were posted) ... I learned from RTN that they implemented the rule this week that teams can't count more than 5 home meets, if they have more than 5 home meets, they can only count the lowest 5 scores! A handful (to several?) teams are affected by this rule (including SUU & Utah State). Apparently they received a lot of requests for exceptions to this rule, none were accepted ... then they were asked that they hold off on the implementation of this rule ... they decided to go ahead and implement it this week!
)
OSU will still be ranked #25 on Monday 3/23 ... as the teams ranked above OSU can’t lower their NQSs as low as OSU’s, even with a season low. The teams below, all with only one meet remaining, can’t reach OSU’s NQS ... even with a season high.
(Note: #26 SUU’s last meet is a sixth home meet so they can’t increase their NQS ... & even if they had a waiver to the rule of max 5 (lowest) home scores ... they still couldn’t match OSU’s NQS.) They are still using “pods” to distribute unseeded teams to Regionals ... so one of each “pod” to each Regional, #17-#20, #21-#24, #25-#28 (with possibly some adjustments for geography), OSU is likely to be the 7th ranked team at the Regional ... only ahead of the two “play-in” teams.
