Moment of truth arrives for Oregon State gymnastics
(Requires a subscription to read articles, which I now have (for 3-mo. for $1!).
Currently the option for a digital subscription for new subscribers is ... 3mo/$1 … renews @$19.99/mo unless canceled! The ”Fine Print” says you have to cancel ~15-days before the end of the 3-mo. to avoid the renewal charge, but your subscription will continue until the end of the 3-mo.)
Quotes from Tanya...
(Regional format started in 2019, the last time OSU qualified to Nationals as a team.)
“It's a huge experience to be able to get to that. It was very different when it was 12 teams and we cut it down to eight teams. And so we were fortunate enough to go in 2019,” Chaplin said. “Parity has grown in our sport, so you never know what's going to happen and you never take things for granted and you just fight all the way."
(This season...)
“The belief system they have in each other and themselves has exponentially grown so much over this past year and this past season. And that definitely takes us to a different mindset when we're going into this competition,” Chaplin said.
Kaitlin Garcia...
(attitude approaching Regional...)
“The sport is a lot of fun, but I always joke around that if you try too hard it almost messes you up,” Garcia said. “This sport, you kind of have to let the skills happen. You kind of have to let yourself do it and just enjoy it because the second you try too hard, you almost mess yourself up.”
(close rankings/scores of teams...)
“Tanya says it all the time that our team can compete against anyone in the nation, and I truly believe that. I think if we go out there and we just let ourselves do the gymnastics we know how to do, I think we can absolutely kill it,” Garcia said.
... and Jade Carey...
(right team attitude for consistent performances...)
“I've seen tremendous growth from last year in a lot of different ways. People pushing themselves past what they probably thought they could last year," Carey said. "So it's been really cool to see everyone kind of come together, lean on each other, and really push for what we know we're capable of."
“No one's settling for anything. We always know that we can do even a little bit better, even when we do really well.”
