Oregon State Scores Sixth 197 at Pac-12 Championships, Takes Third Behind Carey's All-Around Title
Some of this week's errors...
** "... scoring its sixth 197 of the season, which is the first time since before 1999 that any Beaver squad has done so. ..."
Yes, but it was also before 1942, since OSU's 1st 197+ scores were in 1999, just two of them, ... and the previous high number of 197+ scores was 2004 with 5.
(after 1999, OSU, in 2001 scored 1, 03-2, 04-5, 07-1, 08-3, 09-1, 11-2, 12-2, 13-3, 15-2, 17-4, 18-1, and 19-2
for a total of 31 197+ scores ... now adding 6 more in 2022! 2004 was a notoriously high scoring year ... as I expect this season may be known in the future.
Average of all NCAA team scores comparing 2019 to 2022:
Teams -- 2019 ---- 2022 -- Difference
1-16 -- 196.873 - 197.238 - +0.365
17-36 - 195.476 - 196.057 - +0.581
37-50 - 194.392 - 195.116 - +0.724
I don't this is just the Olympians in the NCAA now.)
** " ... No. 10 California finished third (197.425) ..." I wish!
** Last, not exactly an error, just a very "clumsy"(?) way to note this 1st in Pac-12 History ...
" ... earned her the 2022 Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year and Freshman of the Year, which is the first time in conference history that any gymnast claimed both. ... "
OK, so maybe in the past a Freshman did win Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year, but NOT Freshman of the Year?? Not just "any gymnast" can win FRESHMAN of the Year!
Or maybe it was " ...earned her the 2022 Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year and Freshman of the Year, which is the first time in conference history that a freshman has claimed Gymnast of the Year!"
Go Beavs!!,
Richard
