Scallops

Anyone hear anything about no longer being able to take scallops recreationally without a federal permit? WTF?

Charter/Party or Recreational Rules and Regulations

There is no Charter/Party component to the scallop fishery in Federal waters.
Atlantic sea scallops may only be harvested from Federal waters by vessels issued a Federal scallop permit.
Therefore Atlantic sea scallops may not be harvested from Federal waters by recreational anglers

So when do divers come under the classification of "anglers"??

Angling definition, the act or art of fishing with a hook and line, usually attached to a rod.

That about sums it up. Looks like the special interest groups got the scallops locked up.

Would be the same draggers that are allowed 400 pounds of incidental by-catch every day, including summer flounder.

Sounds like a grass roots effort is needed to voice your opinions to the pols.
