Sad to see the lack of participation on this site, but it seems NJ diving is hurting also. I'm at the age to know my diving days are done, but I enjoy revisiting the great times I had exploring, spearing, and lobstering. No dive shops anywhere near Barnegat, and few if any boats. What the heck happened?

We had a fire on the Mary L this spring before we were even in the water... This put a huge pinch on my ability to dive and thus my crew of divers as well...

For me the problem has been medical issues for both me and my dive buddy. Along with owning a retail store that takes up too much of my time. And, finally the cost to dive has exceeded my disposable income.

Hey Howard, if you are looking for some new life on your boat, myself and my old crew are all looking for a boat to get out on since we lost the Mary L...

Let me know. All of use tech and seasoned divers. No issues covering costs etc.

Howard,
We had a fire in the cabin before we even got her into the water this year. The boat was a total loss. I have not been in the water since last season... Glad to hear you guys are still getting out. Let me know if you ever need a guy or a crew as I can supply both.

We're all getting older and need to encourage young people to get certified and enjoy our sport. The NJCDC was at the NJ Wild Outdoor Expo all weekend promoting diving with information and demonstrations in the Hawg Trough fish tank. Dozens of kids putting on mask, snorkel, fins and BCD in front of a shower curtain full of tropical fish. We attend three public events every year promoting diving.

For me the economy has hit my pocket and I have teens looking to go to college. At some point I hope they all make it through college, I hope I still have a job, and then can afford to do a few ccommercial boat dives.
Until then I just shore dive and look for private boats when I can squeeze in a dive...

Economics is a big factor. There are those with disposable cash who would rather party and experience diving virtually rather than undergo the training and hardships of diving in Northern waters. It's the WWW, warm water woos syndrome. IMHO.
