The usual crew of Harley, Jack and John joined me on the G.O.A.T. today for some diving. The forecast was great earlier in the week but changed before we headed out. We did not expect good conditions and stayed inshore so we might get some protection from the land. It turned out we did not need to worry and the conditions were pretty nice on the surface. The first stop was a low wood barge close to the inlet and John and Harley dove this one. The came up with big smiles on their faces and fish and lobster in the catch bags. We moved less than a mile away to another wood wreck and Jack and I went in. Once again Lobster and seabass came up. NO Fluke though. We next headed to a small metal snag and several more good sized lobster and sea bass came up thanks to John and Harley. Last chance for jack and I so we tried the Persephone and more nice sized lobster and fish. It was nice to be heading back in early with a nearly full big cooler. Vis was anywhere from 12 to 20 ft depending on which wreck we were on . Bottom temps were 50 on the bottom.
John I hope the conditions last also. We also headed out Sunday with Bart and Brian for some local diving. We tried to stay real close and hit some of the wrecks we pass right over most days. When we went to a wreck about 4 or 5 miles ESE of the inlet we came across a distinct color change in the water. When we dove the wreck we found the top 30 ft or so only had about 2 ft of vis and then it opened up to about 15 or better on the bottom but dark. Maybe an algae bloom? Anyway Brian got the big fluke and the big lobster of the day (fluke around 7lbs and lobster close to 5 lbs) . We also managed a bunch more lobster but only that one fluke .
