Ocean Wreck Divers finally managed to get out today after some poor Spring weather. As we had a mixed bag of divers, experience-wise, the first stop was the Lana Carol, a relatively intact trawler that sank in 1971. The water was a balmy 54F with murk on top, opening up to 15 foot vis on the wreck. Interestingly, I saw the rudder standing upright in the sand a short distance behind the wreck. njscuba.net confirmed that a winter storm moved the wreck years ago, leaving the rudder behind. Some seabass were boated and a few (small) lobsters were sighted. The next stop was the Alex Mac, another trawler that sunk in a collision a decade ago. This is a small low lying broken up wreck. The temp was again 54F, with murk on top, an optimist would say the vis on the bottom was maybe 4 feet. One nice size lobster was brought up. There was a little swell and the wind picked up a little as the day went on but a nice day of diving!
Yes Howard, there is still a washout with some nice sea bass in residence. I am going to try to post trip reports this year (like you do). Hopefully other folks will do the same. John
It's nice to see dive reports again the way this BB used to be years ago. It's been kind of dead the last few years. Even if the dive wasn't the best it's still a dive report and we're all aware that sometimes poor dive conditions come with the territory and it has nothing to do with the boat or captain, hey, it's fishing, not catching as they say.
It would be nice if this BB would become more active like it used to be with general discussions about techniques, equipment, wreck discussions, dive destinations, you name it.
Thanks to Howard, Kim, "Tuna" mates and a few other independent boats that occasionally contribute.
