Closing "Deep Flooded Mine" operations today for the season, by winterizing. Today John Eells and I deflated and removed both inflatables, took to my garage and were cleaned. We also cut free six total steel cables dangling below the platform, three from this steel float ball which we moved inside the opening (no easy feat mind you). Lastly, we covered the bench in plastic to protect it from the weather. While it's still diveable now, when it ices over, it makes it difficult to get the buoys! The 5' diameter steel buoy is earmarked as the buoy over the Monte Carlo in the spring, as the central point to begin most dives by the majority of the crew. That will also be a launching point for the continuing search for the body of Robin Murphy, a nearby resident who was murdered in 1995 and dumped in the mine, she was 17 years old. It has been a hell of a season here, and there is still much to do. Unbelievable amount of wreckage is at the bottom of this place, never has been seen since it went in. Merry Christmas all!
