Yesterday, a team consisting of John Eells, Teddy Garlock and myself revisited the 1988 Monte Carlo to do a couple of tasks, one to install a more permanent 1/4" nylon line to replace Bernie Chowdhury's #24 wreck reel line that we have been using for weeks. Next was recovering all of John's tools left in a tool bag with a 100# lift bag, including Bernie's reel. Next was doing some photography with my DSLR at depth for the first time. All other trips we were too task loaded to deal with the bulky camera a light rig, as we as a team were recovering a safe inside the trunk of said car, that after prying open the trunk. With details sketchy at best, since the state police never revealed too much info about the whole theft of the safe and the boosted Monte C., my biggest worry was there might be a body in the trunk, since so many police descended on the site in 1990 in order to find the car, which they failed to do so, It is also too deep for police divers , at 200'. I also recovered the driver's side T-top a couple weeks ago, since someone mentioned that the rare T-tops were hard to come by and had some salvage value. This now gave us a perfect spot to "tie in" to the wreck, with the removed tops. Teddy also has been topside support, and Sunday he got his chance to dive the mine. It was all I warned him: deep, cold and absolute blackout deeper than 80'. Water clears up nicely deeper than 125', and the vis actually very good, as long as one doesn't stir up the bottom. Wonderful thing was we dove in 5-9mm waves yesterday, with a .01 knot current! Not everyone has FB, but I have an album there with 60 or so images on our mine exploration. Note that this is private property, and the owners are quite strict about no trespassers. Send me a message if you wish to be involved. I have changed the URL, so you can see some GoPro4 footage shot by team member Teddy Garlock, thank you Teddy for shooting editing and uploading! Dive safe and often!
