While we were missing some of the regular natural born killers (one got stuck working , one was in Florida for lobster mini-season , and the more “famous” of the three was “Toof Diving” in NC ), the remaining cast of characters plus a seasoned new guy set out in flat seas this morning with a goal of filling the Tuna’s HUGE cooler.
What?
All 3 sites we hit had great surface vis and 25’+ vis on the bottom. Bottom temps were a very comfortable 55F and we had 73F on the hang. You know it is going to be good day when you get dropped on a notoriously silty wreck at O-dark 6:40am and can clearly see the shot-line going down, down, down. As I approached the bottom, I could clearly make out several walls against the sandy bottom.
Where?
Did you REALLY think we would tell you exactly WHERE we went? As Bob Nash would say, we were SE of the spot and then N of that spot. Let’s just say the first two were wooden and the third was rusty.
Good?
The good news is we caught some Blackfish up to 9 lbs, a bunch of lobster up to 4 lbs, some Winter Flounder, a couple of decent sized scallops and a healthy amount of Fluke up to 10.25 lbs!
Bad?
The bad news is that SOMEONE caught a 30”, 10.25 lbs fluke and has knocked Mr. Noble out of the running for the title of Duke of Fluke, after he only held the record for a mere 5 days....LOLOL
The Tuna Seizure is running Thursday, Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. As noted above, conditions are great so call the shop at 610 631 2288.
The marine forecast looks great for the next several days, so get out there and go diving somewhere!
FRI SE WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. SEAS AROUND 3 FT. MAINLY IN SE SWELL WITH A DOMINANT PERIOD OF 8 SECONDS.
Today, there were NO spearguns on board so we motored over to the Delaware to see how she was doing.
With flat seas above and 55F / 15' vis below, some wetsuit divers were visiting this wreck for the first time. She did not disappoint. After getting the lay of the wreck on the 1st dive and seeing what kind of goodies I brought up, these guys brought some of their own 100+ year old treasures to the surface on the 2nd dive.
Some nice sea bass, at least six keeper lobsters in deep holes, a nice size blackfish with what looked like an unsuccessful spear shot and quite a few fluke shorts were seen on the wreck.
During the surface interval, we could see bunker jumping out of water all around the boat. With the good surface vis, we could also see what was making them jump--bluefish!
From the former Duke of Flyke, Another great day on the Tuna Seazure on Thursday. Let's just say we had to pick up a new cooler before we got to the dock.
