We were number running again, with our adventurous group. First stop was a broken up metal wreck with some life (Sea Bass and Bugs) not enough to keep us entertained for 2 though. This first stop will need some additional attention when Tog opens, there were some real monsters awaiting the dinner table. Next stop was a location we had not visited before and we were not disappointed. Bottom temps are still holding cold, today 52*-54* was the consensus and viz was good in the 15' to 20' range. 9 on board 27 Sea Bass and a bunch of bugs.
Saturday 7/12 Full boat of regulars, Sea Bass and Bugs would be the theme. Fist stop another new one for us and it held some life but again on the smaller side and a move to another site was in order. Second site was one of our regular haunts and it did not disappoint. We would again limit out on Sea bass and some bugs to round things out. Mr Noble would also grab a nice Monk for his grill...........hopefully next time he will clean it....what a mess these things are. Again 15' to 20' viz and bottom temps in the low to mid 50's*.
Pics to follow soon
Sunday 7/13 Weather was scheduled to pick up later in the day, so sticking close was the theme today. Brunette was the choice.........Day started out to be not so bad, but building the whole time. We did get our 2 in but it was a little snotty by the time we bailed. What was really surprising was the 4* temp drop from the day before.....almost everyone had 48* on the bottom at 75'.......I can't believe we are still running into 40 degree water in the middle of July. Viz took a turn for the worse as well at maybe 5' to 10' depending on who you asked. One of our big game hunters returned from a short absence and got 2 very nice bugs and a 20 something inch Fluke. A couple Sea Bass thrown in to round out the day.........we did get it in so that was cool.
I used to have issues with monk as well until one of the commercial guys showed me how. This still doesn't address the skin and membrane, the membrane always gave me issue until I found this. Still more involved than a "regular" fillet though.

Bart will just scare the fish out of it's skin. Wonder if they eat moon snails?

Bart is afraid of any fish or mammal with teeth. He is not going to clean that fish.DSAO,

Huh, never would have thought. Is this why he has concentrated on terrorizing moon snails, sinkers, anchors and artifacts?

Whale and Dolphin really chap his shorts. He believes they are all dangerous.
Don't get me wrong, if you loose something, anything, there isn't anyone better to go and find it.
I remember one day I was working on untangling a reel for someone and just as I took out the reel shaft some bumped me and the next sound I heard was "Gerplunk". Bart saved me from having to replace a wreck reel by jumping in and finding it 90 feet below.
He can find anything, but Whale and Dolphin scare the shit out him.DSAO,
Captain Jim Wilson

After hearing Capt Bill's summation I don't think Bart is scared of any marine wildlife. He's willing to share HIS ocean with them and as long as he's left alone, he'll do the same. I don't know what the moon snails did to him though, must have been really bad. I heard the wreck reel story and while you may be amazed, he just brushed it off as an everyday occurance. Watch out if he turns his skills to finding diamond rings, coins and Blackbeards loot. Just think, you knew him when he was an unknown. Next we'll be seeing him on Conan O'brian or Dave Letterman show.

Bart has surpassed our mortal humble dive goals. As a true underwater explorer he has moved on to bigger and better, lead, anchors, moon snails to say nothing of rusty hunks of metal everything else has lost it's challenge. To see him streaking across the bottom in pursuit of these things is a truly humbling experience for us less gifted. My hood is off to him and his skill. Capt. Bill
