Let Me Say This - Tuna Seasure Dive Report weekend 06/21

it was a great weekend on the Tuna Seasure for sure!!! - two days with two full boats of Fun and Sun
Big Fluke - I got a 26 incher but was beaten soundly by Mr. Nobles 28 inch Halibut
big seas on Sat did not slow down things down - staying local seemed to make sense with the high seas and the vis was great - i mean the best this year, We stopped at the Burnett and while it was my turn to tie, I graciously let my partner have 1st crack at the bottom dwellers - well after 30 minutes there were tales of giants which had gotten away and very little to show - as the other divers returned, it seems they must have went to a different wreck?, as there was plenty of seafood for everyone - well almost everyone-
Enough said on that subject - i even saw little scallops cruising by, i swear i could hear them laughing about something - lololoool
I of course being the last in, it did not even faze me - i had my plan (SIGN OF A TRUE EXPERT UNDERWATER HUNTER) and that was to bag a HUGE FLUKE - and after what seemed like several miles of swimming or in my case bottom dragging, I found my big fish - for those of you who actually hunt these giants, it is startling how far away from a big one you can see them - i looked to my left and in the distance i could see those beady eyes and nose watching me – Being an expert, once a sizeable fish is located, i go into my stealth mode – As I got closer, I realize it is only a 26 incher, (a little disappointed), a very good fish for most weekend divers, but about average for this big game veteran - , I position my pole spear - THATS right, pole spear, (for those of u that know me, I have taken yellowfin tuna at the canyons with this spear) and take careful aim at the gillplate - This year i am making it harder on myself by aiming ONLY for head shots as to minimize the damage to the fillets - of course my shot was a bit off but its early in the season - it’s amazing how hard they take off of the bottom and how big the mouth and teeth are on these FISH!!!! - now shooting one of these big guys is one thing, but getting it in the bag is another - again, if you have not done this before, my advice is to watch someone with a lot of experience before you attempt it - this not being my first rodeo, i am in fluke mode and not a body motion is wasted. Into the bag goes the big guy,
i love it when they are so big that they have to be folded to get them into the mouth of the bag, but thats for later in the season.
For the record, for those of you that asked, i will be making a video and posting it, so others can learn the proper technique – a quick return and getting back on board I am happy to see someone else also got a big one , again an example of a true underwater explorer, there r those who could learn from this lolololololol
On Sunday it was even crazier – the seas were flat and we only had to move like 400 feet from the burnett and Capt Bill had us back into the game again – This time the fish were even more safe, as there was only one spear for the two giant guns that someone brings - everyone got a lobster or two and they were all nice plump ones – PJ even went out into the sand and grabbed a very big male which somehow stole his glove?????. I know there is a story here but he would not give it up – I mean come on, it pulled your glove off??? Once I got bit by a dog and it pulled my glove off, but a lobster?????
What did it do, hide the glove in its basement? Is there a lobster running around on the bottom with a dive glove on?????
I got in and after a quick demonstration of how not to get in the water without ur dry suit inflator attached, trying to descend with the down line attached to your pony and dropping your pole spear at the ladder, I made it to the bottom in fine shape lololol…
Anyway, after a lot of moving around, I got some small winter flounder – 12 inches is the limit and mine were all 16 plus inches ( of course) – and one very nice female lobster (ahwbulwe)– don’t make your house out of a mud hole if you don’t want someone to shove his hand into it - WHAT NOW!!!!!!
A quick message to the person who called from the beach to say he would have caught all of the lobsters himself, let me say this - -- PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - how’s that sand castle going for you?– AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH – hashtag - a hush goes over the crowd lololol
Hard to believe but There r thoses who have Capt Bill on speed dial , they miss the good times that much
As always – on return, everyone went home with lobsters and fish – Carl kicked butt racking in the lobsters
Just a reminder for the new diver out there– if the boat says it is leaving at 7 am, be on board at 6:15 as to avoid any confusion. Lolololol
As always a great time to be had by all
I remain The bartman-mosb
