Marathon Key dive operator?

Anyone have any recommendations for a dive shop in Marathon Key? I'm going to be there for a few days in February and was hoping to get out for a dive trip or two.

Hi, I am an ex NJ diver now living in Marathon. Check out the web site and reviews for Abyss Dive Center. Best operator in town.

Thanks Chet. I saw on line that Abyss uses a 6 pack, which is more to my liking than a big crowded boat. I"ll give them a call.

LAST TIME I DOVE THE KEYS 1993 STOPPING AT RANDOM DIVE SHOPS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO KEY WEST, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF DIVE SHOPS JUST LOOK FOR THE BIG RED AND WHITE DIVE FLAGS.I AM SHURE IT HAS NOT CHANGED. ASK IF THEY HAVE A 6 PACK RUNNING AND AT WHAT TIME. I ALWAYS ASK THEM TO TAKE ME TO A DIVE SITE THATS IN LIVING COLOR NOT BLACK AND WHITE AND NO CATTEL BOAT. OTHER WISE YOU CAN BE DIVING WITH 16- 24 DIVERS AND ON A TRAMPLED - DEAD -REEF.DONOT FORGET TO TELL THEM YOUR FROM JERSEY. BECAUSE EVEN IF YOUR FROM MIAMI WHEN YOUR IN THE KEYS YOUR A FOREIGNER. ALSO EAT SOME KEY LIME PIE WHILE YOUR DOWN THERE, ALL YOU NEED IS FLIP FLOPS AND A FEW T-SHIRTS..

The reason I posted my question was so I wouldn't spend an entire day stopping by every dive shop and asking those questions. I'm only there 3 days, and flying out on the third which gives me two days to find a shop and get out there.

What do you mean by "color, not black and white?"

There are still some nice looking patch reefs altough i'm not a reef diver. I know hall's is running as I just watched their boat go by.I've dove sombero and a few other of the ain reefs but the patch reefs get less attenion. There are some cool stuff around that a jersey diver would enjoy but i've never heard of any of the dive boats hitting them. Also be aware a six pack boat down here can be as small as the low twenties in length. Watch the weather it's winter down here as well just blew for two days although right now it's very nice. Doesn't really matter a lot who you go with as it's mostly NO DECO, limited bottom times since it's a tourist dive place and mostly the divers down here are a tad basic. Been trying to talk myself out of buying a boat and go diving for a few years. They also (mostly) have a tendency to cancell if the seas get to three plus although the bigger boats like halls and tildens seem to run. ABout all I can tell you. Always try diving the thunderbolt or the spigel. Capt. Bill

Black & white reefs are dead. Literally black & white....no color to them whatsoever. It's been awhile but saw a lot of that in the Bahamas

The ones that still have color to them are alive and hopefully thriving.

Probably just get down here figure out what you want to dive then find a shop going there. There's a ton of shops down here and I suppose some are better then others but it really is the dive site that may determine it. Some mostly hit the reefs some the wrecks so go on line narrow it down then give it a look when you get here. Marathons not a big place it's a fishing and diving town with a drinking problem. Capt. Hey Bill, I've been to Marathon many times and never encountered any type of drinking problem.

YOU DRINK, GET DRUNK, FALL DOWN AND GET UP--NO PROBLEM!

I think you may have left the tripping, weaving part out. But the beer is cold and the ice hard, course today at least so is the weather, 59 degree's and blowing, winters tough down here. Should get to 70 yet but we'll see. may need to see if the beers cold today. Maybe even a good day to wander on over to Key West, maybe. Seems I have a case of the Keez disease. Capt. Bill
