Six happy divers took advantage of warm sunny weather and calm seas to help relieve the fish overpopulation problem. I was a little concerned about bottom conditions knowing the rough seas we had last weekend, but it turned out to be fine.
First stop was the Dykes. Bottom vis a cloudy 10-15 feet, temps in the low 60s. Some trigger fish, blackfish and a nice fluke were rescued. One thing I never noticed before was the baby mussels (like 1/4" or less sized) that seemed to cover the bottom of the wreck, inside the hull. Everything was covered with them. There must have been millions of them.
Second stop was the same rock pile Paul & Ruth brought us to two weeks ago. All the dead eels were gone. However, lobstering was good, and a lot of divers and their friends & families will be eating lobster the next couple of nights. A 3-1/2 pounder came up, more than a couple of 2 pounders, and another dozen or so slightly smaller. Water here was very clear, a good 20 ft of vis on the bottom. Looking up, you could see the diveboat from 58 feet.
Last stop was the Bannana Barge. One really big tog was taken, several smaller and a few lobsters. And one flashlight that one of the divers lost two weeks ago. There was a thick cloud of sediment on the surface here, I guess it was some kind of algae but I really don't know.
Thanks to Paul & Ruth for a great day out on Lake Atlantic.
