8/4 LILLIAN report

Independence II headed to the LILLIAN (150 fsw) on Saturday. Had 15-20 foot of visibility on the bottom. Was a pretty dark due to the layer of plankton near the surface sucking up the sunshine. Water temp in high 40s on bottom, very warm from 60 feet on up making for a very pleasant deco. Scallops were present but you had to work to get any decent numbers. They seemed to be more in the wreck than out in the sand. Large winter flounder seemed to covering every square inch of the bottom and it actually was a bit annoying having them create a contiuous cloud of dust as you swam along. A couple bugs came up and I saw quite a few on the wreck. I let the 3 pounder I had in my bag go to get to my hammer and chisel which I used to recover a nice porthole. We were also fortunate to recover our ground tackle including a 30 cu ft cylinder we lost a few weeks back to put the cherry on an already successful day!

Next week the Independence is heading to the RESOR on Saturday and the 56 mile wreck (aka Herbert Parker) on Sunday.
