It was a really slow start for us this summer but we finally got out Saturday for our first ocean dive. With the report of afternoon thunderstorms, we decided to make it an easy morning and head out to the Axel Carlson Reef. I wanted to dive and photograph the Joan LaRie III, a 95' tug that was sunk on October 30, 2001. It was formerly named Brooklyn and is a dedication to 8 lives lost when the charter boat Joan LaRie III sunk in 1984. Veronica and I watched the tug sink in 2001 and it was my first visit there. I missed all the great viz at the beginning of the season. We had a cloudy 10' with a bottom temp of 57.
I also tried my new GoPro Hero2 for the first time and was really impressed. Here is a video of the dive:
