Discovery of the "Four Daughters" on 9/4/05

Now a piece of history, included here is a link to the YouTube video of the first dive to the 4D's. Looking back, we really stuck our necks out to find this lost wreck, some 45 miles out of Manasquan Inlet, sailing from Bill Cleary's marina, right near the "Seeker". The "Poseidon" was our ride, and she couldn't do more than nine knots with a single screw. Weather was so-so, and rough at the location, with a good surface current. One diver aborted, leaving just Doug and myself to ID the wreck. Card tied in and I followed him down with the video camera rolling as I hit the keel of the turtled Clammer. It had only been down a two and a half years, and you could easily see the brush strokes in the paint, a orange juice container sit in the galley. Clothes lay strewn about, it was spooky. Lobsters abounded, and it was tough just rolling tape. On the second dive Doug and I recovered the life ring with the name inscribed, and a positive ID of the lost wreck. It has been visited seven known times, all by Card and myself.

Glenn:
It was reported that the salt water flush of the catch hold was not being pumped overboard at the same rate as intake, so gradually the ship was floundering. The mate finally on watch saw the stern underwater, in the middle of the night, dead of winter, 45 miles from shore, and called abandon ship!

Thanks, often wondered the reason.
Something as simple as a high water alarm not installed on a brand new just off the rail boat, dumb!!!

3 million dollar vessel sunk first time out. Also went down with 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel, and it's still in the tanks.

Once again, great photography.
A stark contrast between the then and now.
Also then there wasn't a large size limit on bugs, ah, the good Ole days!!!!
It appears there were even more mussels back then, but I know from experience storms sandblast the wrecks and the mussels need to start over.
Thanks for sharing.

P.S. I never followed through with the sinking, was it ever determined why it sunk? I know no loss of life and sea conditions were calm or nearly so. As mentioned it was it's maiden voyage.

Couldn't find any news clippings on this wreck, first time I've heard of her. Any links would be appreciated!
