Independence RESOR report for 4/28

Wind died down as predicted and was at our back as we left Manasquan inlet at 0600 making the over 30 mile ride SE to the RESOR relatively smooth. Viz was decent at 25-30 feet and relatively warm 50 degrees top to bottom. Not as many scallops as expected/hoped but still a few decent sized bags boated. Also only a couple lobsters but lots of smalls and eggers were harassed. Several big fluke spotted in the sand off the wreck showing off since they know they're off limits. I also spotted one of the biggest cod I've ever seen hunking down inside the wreck out of reach. The seas laid down as the day went on and all in all it was a pretty nice day!

Next week the Independence is heading to the STOLT on Saturday and the ARUNDO on Sunday... Contact Capt Dan to sign up.

They are the warmest 5mm gloves I've ever worn. I like them better then 7mm Henderson hyperstretch gloves in fact.

very impressive. They seem like really good cameras but I wasn't sure how they would perform in local waters. Although the viz seems like it was pretty good that day. The only artificial light was from the divers' goodman lights?

I was on this trip but my day didn't go as well as everyone elses. Being my first dive of the season, I checked out all my gear (almost), regs, computers, lights, b.c.... Everything EXCEPT my drysuit. When I suited up, I noticed some weird stuff right away. First, my suit was so tight I couldn't bend over enough to put my fins or ankle weights on. Seems I gained a pound or twenty over the winter. Then, to kick the day in the ass, the neck seal was as loose as the neck of a tee shirt. You could easily stick a finger down there. My dive day turned into a 'nice' boat ride with a few hour nap thrown in.

Now, the offending suit is in the shop getting new seals and I'm in the market for a new, larger suit.

So kids, the morals of this story are... Being stupid and fat can get expensive and ruin your day !! 'F' me

I know everyone is just chomping at the bit to find out what's going on with my drysuit problems. Well... my old, too small suit is in the shop getting a new neck seal. I may sell it, but I'll probably keep it in case I lose a few lbs. AND (DRUM-ROLL PLEASE) I have an order in to Northern Diver over in England to whip me up a brand new, custom Cortex front zip !! Unfortunately that's going to take about FIVE WEEKS !! I think I may be able to wear my old suit if I wear my thin underwear. BRRRR !! So there you go !! Now you all can stop worrying about me and finally get some sleep. Night-night, kids.
