The John Jack visited the RP Resor on Saturday, Oct. 9 with a group of divers from Treasure Cove. The boat pulled out of its slip at 6am under a starry sky just as the faintest hint of light on the horizon heralded that dawn was beginning to break. It was very relaxing sitting in the cabin drinking coffee and reading my book with the lights dimmed and the darkness outside as we motored out. However, this reverie was interrupted when we reached the wreck sight. Terry tied us in while Bill worked the lines with Capt. Rich at the helm.
Seas were calm with a nice topside temp. A lot of jellyfish and a fair amount of organic material were in the water up top but the surface murk that has been plaguing this area was nowhere to be found this far offshore. Visibility up top was quite good and one could see about 40-50ft, maybe 60ft. Visibility on the bottom was about 30ft with little particulate in the water and plenty of light due a clear surface layer. There was little to no current top to bottom with no surge present. Several lobster were boated along with a good amount of scallops.
It really was a phenomenal day out on the water, one of the best this year.
As a footnote cunners can be annoying. They kept swarming around the lens as I kept waving them away. One of them even bit me in the forehead by the temple between the hood and mask. Felt a prick (open for jokes) and knew one of them had taken a nip. They really are aggressive.
Konger, still working on issues with buttons for video. Very frustrating. Jim, LOL. Anchorman, The sand is at 125ft. Except for the superstructure (upto about 80ft) expect to be 105-110 to the sand the whole time. Depending where you are hooked in you could spent your whole dive close to 125.
Awesome pix. BTW, what is the max depth you guys are hitting on the Resor? We're hoping to get out there before the season ends and I'd like to know what mix to plan.
