I'd be interested in seeing what some of these wrecks will look like a few days after the storm moved the sand or the wrecks themselves. This could be more interesting than we thought...
What is everyone talking about, Capt Jim has plans for me and the rest of the crew to replace the intake screens and scrub the bottom of the boat again this weekend - he says we can get it done Sat and Sunday. everyone is acting crazy
The problem with hauling my boats is I don't believe the marinas are set up to deal with huricanes up here. You should have heavy anchor points in concrete where the boats are placed. Strapping them to the concrete pad. There is a high risk given enough wind on a boat on blocks it can actually blow over as happens down south. If the boats are trailable you can get them to a save place. For sure it will be "interesting" if the hurricane doesn't slide off east. Capt. Bill
Nothing interesting, more along a major problem if it does this Sandy Hook to Cape May, N.J.
The eyewall of Irene will pass close by Sunday, with full hurricane effects expected. Weather conditions will deteriorate Saturday into Saturday night with wind and rain increasing. Periods of heavy rain (5 to 10 inches), damaging hurricane-force winds (80-100 mph) and serious coastal and back bay flooding will occur Saturday night and Sunday. Expect significant beach erosion with a storm surge averaging 2 to 4 feet, but locally it can be higher. Waves will top seawalls late Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Could lose a few boats as I don't think many of the slips the dive boats are in offer the kind of protection needed to not sustain major damage.Hundred mile hour winds will clean the shore and the beach's of maybe everything. I'll be doing what I can to the boats but if this forecast is right I'd head to higher ground if you live down there. Capt. Bill
