This Past Week
Saturday the 11th –Tridents – Started out on the Ida K. where we tied in for one, with the catch being 8 lobsters, 9 sea bass and a doormat size fluke. At that point we picked up the anchor and started doing buoy dives for the rest of the day. Staying in the same general vicinity the next dive on the Coffee produced 4 more lobsters, a sea bass and yet another good sized fluke. I started to work north up to the Hankins but only 3 more sea bass came up and it looked like it had just been hit. The Boiler produced 2 more bugs and another sea bass and the last spot was a bit of a disappointment as it was sanded in but again managed to give up 2 more lobsters and a sea bass. The final score being:
16 Lobsters
15 Sea Bass
2 Fluke
1 Red Hake (ling)
Not bad for the first real dive of the season.
Sunday the 12th – Metuchen Underwater Divers M.U.D – Emerald Wreck (Francis Wright) – Other than the fact that the wreck spit the hook out several times before we got it tied in, it was a great day. Seems the wreck was heavily encrusted with mussels and every time the hook bit it pulled out. I don’t deal well with “hook rejection”.
Once the unpleasantness was over things got MUCH better. Coming up from the first dive a diver new to the Sea Lion came over the side and mentioned he had a lobster. I don’t think he knew how good a grab he had made because when the bag was opened there was a 5 pound lobster in it; just inside the legal size, another sixteenth of an inch it would have been too big. On the second dive a four pounder came up along with two other decent bugs, like I said things got much better. A number of bags of mussels also came up, not sure why the wreck had so many mussels on it as over the years it has never had any.
This Week
Saturday the 18th – OPEN 100> – Destination will be based on divers interest / the whims of the captain. I have several locations in mind including one that I haven’t put divers on and several others that I haven’t been to in quite awhile. If you have somewhere you would like to visit give me a call, I’m always open for suggestions, not that I always take them but I do enjoy listening to them.
Sunday the 19th – Lakeland Divers – New Diver Special – Lakeland will have extra staff on-board to assist divers new to North East diving. This will be an enjoyable laid back kind of a day so whether you’re new to the North East or not come on out and enjoy.
