Evenly distributed divers hunters/collectors, with a little more emphasis for bugs than fish.
Capt Bill and Gillman would choose a good one from the GPS today. Blowing pretty good from a westerly direction but not too bad and air temp not too bad at all for Januray. After a 15-20 minute ride we were on site at zero dark thirty......literally (there was banter about us doing a night dive) first dive was dark and maybe 5-8 ft with some saying better than that.
Dive 2 opened up nicely with better light and the biq swell settling down. 4 nice tog would be the booty today, one in the 8 pound range and the other 3 not too far behind. They seem to be getting into their winter routine holding tight into holes and such. Alot of the normal Saturday hijinx with some regulars and back at around noon to air temps closing in on 60*.......Gotta love it!
Sunday 1/8 "One of our regular haunts"
Colder this morning....frosty deck made for some loading fun and not so fun! Some of our newer regulars were joined by a Jersey Dive Legend and off we go at our regular pre-sunrise departure.
After our short journey we were on site and the big red shiny thing had not yet reared its head for the day. Similar condition to Saturday dark and maybe 5 ft vis would greet the tie in. Today we would be tied to a piece that no one was familair with. 20 foot or so away lay our prize for the day. As the red shiny thing got up higher into the sky, diving brighten up a bit and some exploring was a little easier. Quite a bit of "junque'" would be had this day, I think 2 just legal bugs and one lonely Cod would finish off the booty today.........oooops! almost forgot, the Jersey Legend single handedly cleaned off many many pounds of debris from the old wreck, which should make for tiddier conditions the next time we visit..........
The one thing that I noticed today was the cold is starting to make itself known.....surface temp was 43* and it was still holding nicely at 48* on the bottom (reverse thermocline) All in all a great diving day as conditions improved all day long!
We are trying to get out this week to take advantage of some great sea conditions this week. Right now we have some interest in Wednesday and the weather looks like its cooperating! If you want to play hookie with us give the shop a call @ 610-631-2288
