This Past Week
Saturday the 31st - New Year’s Eve dive – Delaware – What a great way to end the 2011 season. Good divers, good friends and a good dive on the Delaware. The day started out a little sloppy but by 1100 the wind swung around to the west and the ocean lay down very nicely. Water temps have dropped into the high forties but that’s still warm enough with the right equipment to make a decent dive. We actually had three divers diving wet suits and all made two good dives. As usual a number of spikes and misc. stuff came up, all in all another great day on the steamer.
REMEMBER We will be running OPEN boats through out the winter, there’s a lot of great diving late in the year. For any of the OPEN boats or if you’d like to get out on any day not listed I can be reached at either 973-887-DEEP (3337) or on my cell 201-401-4608 you can either call or text me.
This Week
Saturday the 7th – OPEN – As usual winter dive destinations are based on the number of divers we have on-board, the customer’s interests and the whims of the captain. Current thinking is to head to the Mohawk or the Delaware. We already have one on-board and as always we’re looking for some hardy winter divers. 0800 departure
Sunday the 8th – OPEN – As usual winter dive destinations are based on the number of divers we have on-board, the customer’s interests and the whims of the captain. We might head up to the Pinta or down to the Mohawk if we get enough divers and reasonable weather. We already have one on-board and as always we’re looking for some hardy winter divers. 0800 departure
NOTE: One thing to keep in mind is that winter destinations are really just suggestions on my part. If you have somewhere you want to get to let me know and if we have the divers and the weather that’s where we’ll head.
Next Week
Wednesday the 11th – OPEN - Lobsters and Fish 100> - I’ve listed this as a hunting trip but again destinations are subject to change based on the desires of those on-board.
Saturday the 14th – OPEN - Special Dredging trip 80> - This is scheduled to be a working dive on a wreck I’ve been looking to dig some holes in for awhile. This is the same wreck we were at a few weeks ago when it was too rough to deploy the dredge but just hand fanning produced a few brass valves. Dredge dives are open to anyone; however there will be a three inch pump running most if not all of the day and if you’re looking for a quiet day at sea this won’t be one. Give me a call on my cell 201-401-4608 if you have any additional questions concerning this type of dive.
Sunday the 15th – OPEN – Brunette 80’ - The Brunette was a 274 ton screw propeller freighter, built in 1867 by Pusey & Jones Yards, Wilmington, Delaware. On February 1, 1870, the Brunette was en route from New York to Philadelphia with a general cargo. At 10:00 PM she collided with the Santiago de Cuba Captain George Hoffman found this wreck quite a few years back. When divers started to dig, they recovered crates of brown and white marble door knobs, pocket knives and bottles. All that is left of her is her propeller shaft, coal fired steam engine and boilers. The "Door Knob Wreck", as she is more commonly known, rests 200 feet away from the Cadet in 70 feet of water.
ATTENTION
The tentative 2012 SEA LION charter schedule has been posted on the web site www.atlantic-wreckdivers.com . Although I have confirmations from more than 90% of the charters be aware that the schedule “may” change slightly but if you’re looking to plan your 2012 diving season now’s the time.
